Creative Activities

The diversity and synthetic nature of the work of Lyubov Anatolyevna Serova, a representative of the Siberian school of graphics, reflects an important facet of the processes that took place in Russian art from the beginning of the 1990s to the present day. This is the desire to leave the format of traditional easel graphics as a chamber phenomenon, in many respects accompanying the interior. During this period in Chelyabinsk, a constellation of talented artists - painters, graphic artists, ceramists - clearly and distinctively declared itself. And Lyubov Serova is undoubtedly one of the stars of that galaxy. Born in Chelyabinsk, having received a professional education in Krasnoyarsk, having lived for several years in Omsk, Lyubov subtly feels the essence and character of the Siberian region, its people, nature, and life rhythms. Urban motives, ruined wooden houses, even heaps of construction waste are transformed in her graphic sheets into objects of art. The way she sees a spot, a line, the most important categories for a graphic artist, how she conveys a state through them, determines the perception of reality, fills it with a feeling of contemplating the beauty of everyday life. The feeling of being filled with light, either enveloping and uniting the details of the image, or mercilessly revealing the details, sometimes turns images into almost abstract spots, into a rhythmic melody of life. Bold large-format sheets (and sometimes whole friezes on rolls of several meters each), a mixture of techniques, textured shading and a range of findings in printed graphics, demonstrate the author's capabilities, her raging creative energy.
